STATUS QUO - SICKCARE vs WELLNESS

FROM "SICKCARE" TO HEALTHCARE

The biomedical community must continue to evolve from our longstanding focus on treating late-stage illness to promoting wellness. We need to move this system from "sickcare" to healthcare, and modern therapeutics will be the key.

We need to change the healthcare paradigm from a focus on triage in late-stage diseases to prevention, early diagnosis, and targeted treatment. If we work together to accelerate this shift from "sickcare" to healthcare, we will become a healthier and more prosperous society.

Former surgeon general Joycelyn Elders says U.S. must transform its 'sick care system'

"You can't educate people if they're not healthy," she said. "And you certainly can't keep them healthy if they're not educated."

The American health care system has become a very expensive "sick care system

"Our public health care system is in disarray,"

"It costs too much, delivers too little, is not cost effective, not affordable and certainly not universal."

NOTES:
We can see - this concern is already known. They mention how vital it is to begin changing the paradigm to a wellness approach. The system of healthcare as it has been operating is broken and "in disarray". USA ranks 72 in health performance worldwide, and spends more than any other nation (http://www.photius.com/rankings/world_health_performance_ranks.html)

Recently published in AARP Magazine, an article mentioned that Doctor's usually get only about 15 minutes with each patient. This is hardly enough time for someone facing difficulties.

What needs to be done to begin changing the paradigm from one of sickcare to one of integrated wellness in healthcare? Education. No, this does not mean everyone needs to go attend a 4 year college. Simple examinations of readily available information make it possible for not only healthcare professionals to learn vital information, but also everyone else! One company who is on the leading edge of accredited education for healthcare professionals as well as individual courses is Proevity, Continuing Education Group.

WELCOME

Welcome. You will find the information helpful to your own knowledge of wellness and being healthier everyday. Being addressed from a common sense viewpoint should be a relief for those of you who suffer from information overload.

I believe any topic, no matter how complex, can and should be made easy to understand using valid principles of common sense.

My aim is to show exciting new technology and safe ways to be healthy and full of life. I will explain in simple ways, confusing topics that ultimately frustrate the public, and often lead to poor decisions. In my attempt to be truthful and accurate I will cite references whenever possible and I encourage others to comment with information that is helpful.

I believe Doctor Mom's know much more about how to keep someone well than the Healthcare industry.

Ultimately I believe getting well, and staying well is important for everyone. All information regarding nutrition, diet, our physiology and lifestyle should be in concepts that are easy to understand and thus encourage decisions of positive change.
